Ethnic conflict over many years coupled with the devastating famine of 1990 in South Sudan, has resulted in deprivation, not only in the community of Juba, the capital of the Republic of South Sudan, but the ten regions comprising of Southern Sudan.

South Sudan gained independence in 2011.

Many people subsist and live below the breadline and eke out an existence growing crops in a hostile environment. Even children are required to work the fields and tend the animals.

Due to the atrocities of war, there are many orphans, as well as single parents now living in South Sudan.

Receiving an education is unfortunately not a privilege many Sudanese people can afford. Education is not a priority and all schools in the region require payment.

WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES

The South Sudan Children’s Education Fund Inc. was set up in 2014 under the auspices of the Coffs Harbour Council of Churches. It is a mission of Hope with Open Eyes and Burning Hearts for justice in the world.

Through it’s activities, we hope to assist the world’s newest nation, South Sudan, to overcome poverty through education of some of it’s disadvantaged children.

It only takes a few educated children to change the face of South Sudan.

Auxiliary Bishop/Vicar General of Catholic Archdiocese of Juba, Santo Loku Plo Doggale, will oversee the distribution of funds raised here in Australia.

Bishop Doggale has given a guarantee to oversee the program, ensuring all the monies raised will be directed to the schools in which the children are able to be educated.

The creation of the South Sudan Children’s Education Fund Inc. will enable children to commence and complete schooling with a view to possibly entering tertiary education.

OUR AIMS AND VISION

To restore dignity to war torn families of South Sudan through helping to secure a future for the children through education.

To reduce child labour and slavery by keeping disadvantaged children at school to gain the skills needed for gainful employment.

To empower families and communities to better meet their own needs through the education of their youth.

To build a network of friendship and support between the establishment of Australian partnerships with the South Sudanese people.

To raise awareness of the crisis in South Sudan, especially in the ravaged villages where schooling is impossible for the poor.

To facilitate communication between Sudanese students and their Australian partners.

SUPPORTING SOUTH SUDANESE CHILDREN THROUGH EDUCATION

It only takes one child to successfully complete their education to make a significant difference to South Sudan in the future. Education is empowerment.
